Beginners Guide To Reformer Pilates in London

Everything you need to know to reform yourself today!

What is Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates is Pilates done using a resistance machine. With its straps, springs and gears, a Pilates Reformer machine seems, at first glance, a little confusing (if not downright kinky). But once in action this is just about the most effective piece of kit in the entire Pilates repertoire. The Reformer’s finely tunable resistance lets you set it up to suit your body perfectly, meaning that all the work you do on it will be extremely effective.

It might not be for everyone, but there are no frills here. We are a pilates studio, not a member’s club or a gym with millions of distractions. We’ve chosen to become the UK leaders in the Pilates technique because it gives our clients what they want in the least amount of time: a toned, energetic, lean, pain-free body that moves brilliantly!

“The facilities are very good, there is a wide range of equipment and the changing room and bathrooms are modern and clean”

Q and A

Do I need to be very fit for the Reformer Pilates classes?

All of our group classes require a certain level of fitness, but with the different levels available there really is something for everyone. The one thing we do have to say is that you shouldn’t take part in a reformer class if you have a significant injury or are pregnant. If you’ve any doubts at all about an injury (old or new), disability or other medical condition then contact us to discuss how we can help you use Pilates in the most appropriate way.

How do I book and which class pass should I purchase?

Simply book our Pilates Reformer Starter Package, which gets you 3 Pilates classes as well as a private session with an instructor to customise your Pilates classes for your own specific body issues / aches and pains and fitness goals

I have an injury — or am recovering from one — can I still do a Moss Reformer Pilates class?

If you have suffered a significant injury — either recently or in the past – you’ll need to speak to us before attending a class. Depending on the severity of the injury and the extent of your recovery we may suggest you start with a few 1:1 sessions, else join our Studio Club or Studio Circuit classes.

Whatever your background you can rest assured we’ll be doing our very best to make you feel, look and move better.

What do I need to know for my first class?

First and foremost you should know that you’re going to absolutely love it. However, you should also make sure you give yourself a bit of extra time for your very first class. If you have not used Pilates equipment before, please arrive a few minutes early, so that the instructor can familiarise you with the equipment before the class begins.  This is essential for your own safety so if you don’t leave enough time before the class starts, you may not be able to train.

How does Pilates fit into your life?

If you’re not moving a lot at the moment – no problem. This is a great place to start moving your body again. If you do currently enjoy other forms of movement, many of our clients tell us that they fit Pilates into their life alongside things like walking, swimming, gardening, running and/or weight training. Pilates helps to align your body and augments all other physical activity, by training your body for optimal movement. It’s the foundation you need for a great feeling you.

“I love it when I’m fit, and it’s my lifeline when I’m injured. It is no exaggeration to say that Moss Pilates is absolutely one of the most important things in my life!”

How many people are in each class?

There will never be more than NINE people in any of the group reformer classes we offer.

What should I wear?

Wear something that’s comfortable and will allow you to move freely. Most people choose stretch pants or shorts with a t-shirt or sports top. You won’t need shoes – you’ll train either in socks or bare feet, whichever you prefer. We have male and female changing facilities, baskets for your valuables, and have water fountains on each floor. You can also purchase chilled bottled water at Reception.

How often do I need to come?

As with everything about Moss Pilates, how often you come is entirely up to you. We work on a pay-as-you-go basis, meaning that you’ll never be tied down to a contract or otherwise obligated to come. However, it goes without saying that the more frequently you visit, the sooner you’ll be on the way to becoming a better you.

Even though it’s different for everyone, it’s often the case that coming 2 to 3 times a week will give you the results you’re aiming for surprisingly quickly. We’d be happy to discuss what’s going to be best for you over the phone or in person.

”I love coming to Moss :-)

We can’t wait to say hi!

While it might seem odd to say this, the staff at Moss are friendly and, well… human. As in we want to meet you, say Hi! and welcome you into our little family of Pilates enthusiasts. Reformer Pilates is something that might sound too good to be true, but there is a lot of enthusiasm surrounding it because it’s unlike other workouts. This is a highly efficient workout that produces results quickly while uncannily leaving you feeling great immediately after the session. It’s a bit of an all rounder, and we are passionate about sharing it’s life changing effects with Londoners who work hard and deserve to discover this method of stress reduction and overall life enhancement.
